A lot of brands pay a few creators, get some views and likes, and then wonder if the campaign actually worked. When someone asks about influencer marketing ROI, there usually isn’t a clear answer. The posts did fine, but it’s hard to say how many sales came from them.
Most of this gets easier if you decide the goal before the campaign starts, set up tracking early, and look at a few numbers instead of twenty. In this blog, we explain how to measure influencer campaign performance in a simple way, so both your marketing team and your finance team can understand the results.
Numbers only make sense when there is a goal behind them. A skincare brand launching a new serum will look at different things than an app that wants more installs. So pick one main goal for the campaign and choose your influencer marketing KPIs based on that.
| Goal: | Influencer marketing KPIs to watch: | Where does the data come from? |
| Awareness | Reach, impressions, video views, follower growth | Creator insight screenshots, platform analytics |
| Interest | Engagement, saves, shares, link clicks, site visits | Platform insights, Google Analytics |
| Sales or leads | Orders, revenue, cost per acquisition, ROAS | UTM links, promo codes, your store or CRM |
| Loyalty | Repeat purchases, customer lifetime value | Your store or CRM |
You can keep a second goal if you want. Just remember the report gets confusing when one campaign is judged on everything.
These influencer marketing metrics work for most campaigns. You don’t need all of them every time.
Engagement rate is the share of people who interacted with a post. Most people calculate it as interactions divided by followers or reach, multiplied by 100. Conversion rate is the share of people who clicked and then bought something or did whatever action you wanted.
These two are different things. A funny reel can get 5% engagement and still bring almost no orders. A simple review video from a smaller creator might get 1.5% engagement and still bring regular orders, because the people watching it were already looking for that product.
When you compare engagement rate vs conversion rate, engagement tells you how people reacted to the content, and conversion rate tells you if it helped the business. Published Instagram benchmarks for 2026 range from under 1% to above 5%, depending on the follower size and the formula used. So don’t depend too much on them. Compare with your own past campaigns first.
Most influencer campaign tracking is setup work that happens before the post goes live. If you leave it until the end, the data is usually missing or mixed up. These steps work well:
At Influencer Bazaar, we track engagement, reach, conversions and audience details across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn. Reports can be sent weekly, monthly or after the campaign ends, whichever the brand prefers.
The numbers below are made up, just to show the math. Say a brand runs a one-month campaign and spends:
The tracked results are 500 orders with an average order value of ₹1,000, so ₹500,000 in revenue.
The formula is (revenue − cost) ÷ cost × 100. So (500,000 − 200,000) ÷ 200,000 × 100 = 150%. ROAS is 5,00,000 ÷ 2,00,000 = 2.5, and CPA is 2,00,000 ÷ 500 = ₹400 per order.
Whether that is good depends on your margin. If the profit left after product cost is small, 150% on revenue can still be a loss. Count all the costs, including free products and your own team’s time, or the result will look better than it really is.
Some 2026 industry reports put the average influencer marketing ROI at around $5 to $6 back for every $1 spent, with the best campaigns going much higher. These numbers are revenue per dollar, so compare them with ROAS (2.5 in our example), not the 150%. They are also self-reported and change from one source to another, so treat them as a rough idea and not a target.
In our campaign reports at Influencer Bazaar, we put conversions, traffic, audience growth and returns together, so cost and results can be read side by side.
Kofluence’s 2026 research report valued India’s influencer marketing sector at ₹3,000–3,500 crore in 2025 and expects it to reach ₹4,500–5,000 crore by 2027. Another analysis from late 2025 said the real spending is much higher because around three-quarters of deals happen directly between brands and creators. When deals are done over DMs and WhatsApp, tracking is often the first thing that gets skipped.
Surveys show something similar. In one 2026 benchmark survey, a little over half of marketers said they still find it hard to measure ROI properly.
Measuring influencer marketing ROI mostly comes down to a clear goal, a few useful metrics, and tracking that is ready before the first post. Start with separate links and codes, keep your cost numbers honest, and compare creators on sales and not only on engagement. If you are still not sure how to measure influencer campaign performance for your brand, Influencer Bazaar can help set up the tracking and reporting for your next campaign.
Q1. What is influencer marketing ROI?
It is what a brand gets back from creator campaigns compared with what it spent. The usual formula is (revenue − total cost) ÷ total cost × 100.
Q2. Which influencer marketing metrics matter the most?
It depends on your goal. For sales, look at conversions, CPA and ROAS. For awareness, look at reach, impressions and video views.
Q3. How to measure influencer campaign performance if the goal is awareness?
Use reach, impressions, video views and follower growth. Ask creators for insight screenshots, and check if branded searches or direct visits go up during the campaign.
Q4. What is a good influencer marketing ROI?
Some industry sources treat about $5 back for every $1 spent as healthy. What is good for you depends on your profit margin, so use your own numbers.
Q5. Which is better to track, engagement rate vs conversion rate?
Both, but for different reasons. Engagement rate shows how people reacted to the content, and conversion rate shows if it led to sales.
Q6. How do UTM links for influencers work?
You add tags to your page link for each creator. When someone clicks it, Google Analytics records which creator, platform and campaign the visit came from.
Q7. How long should I wait before judging a campaign?
At least your full time window, which is often 14 to 30 days. Checking after two days usually shows fewer sales than the campaign really brought.
Q8. Which influencer marketing KPIs should a small brand start with?
Start with link clicks, orders per creator, cost per order and promo code use. Add reach and engagement after the basic tracking is working.
